150 Miles in the Desert, Alone and Without a Map

We drive the 150-mile, four-wheel-drive Mojave Road from Southern California to Arizona without a map, relying on handwritten directions and navigating deep sand, steep tracks, and water crossings. Along the way, we camp in the desert, explore its history and unusual landmarks, and briefly get lost before finding the route again. We complete the crossing, but later discover that our truck has suffered tire damage and a leak, then cool off with a swim in the Colorado River.
