24 Hours Underground Inside A Giant Gold Mine

We traveled to the remote town of Alleghany, California, and descended several thousand feet into the historic 16-to-1 gold mine. We spent 24 hours underground, explored the tunnels, prepared food and camped in complete darkness before climbing back to the surface the next morning. We reflected on the risks and the lasting memories of this unusual adventure.
