24hrs in the Highest City on Earth with No Laws (my scariest travel experience)

We traveled from Lima to La Rinconada in the Peruvian Andes, the highest human settlement on Earth, and experienced the effects of the extreme altitude. We explored the mining town with local guides, learned about the dangerous working conditions, mercury pollution, and harsh realities faced by miners and residents. After a frightening night and worsening oxygen levels, we captured the town’s scale at sunrise and left reflecting on its beauty, danger, and the sacrifices people make to earn a living.
