We prepare for and attempt to drive the 150-mile Camino del Diablo along the U.S.-Mexican border, carrying extra fuel, food, and water while navigating an active military range and harsh desert conditions. We deal with rain, rough terrain, a worrying vehicle noise, and the isolation of camping alone, while also reflecting on the dangers faced by migrants crossing the Sonoran Desert. After finding unexploded ordnance and struggling through difficult riverbeds and rocks, we make it safely out of the military range and back to a paved road.
