We prepare for and follow Nate’s first attempt at the Leadville 100 after only 10 weeks of training, explaining the race’s extreme altitude, elevation gain, and 30-hour cutoff. We join Nate and his crew at the start, then follow the early miles around Turquoise Lake as he manages nerves, cramps, pacing, and logistical problems with the van and tracking system. By the first aid station, Nate is behind his planned pace but is still feeling relatively strong and relying on his crew for support.
