We set off from Jeddah with three local friends for a road trip to Umluj, where we camped on a beach and hoped to take a boat around the island. Bad weather canceled the boat trip, so we explored the old town and enjoyed a large seafood feast before discussing what it is like for women to travel in Saudi Arabia. We then visited remote black sand dunes, admired the surreal landscape, and learned about responsible tourism along the way.
