Day 1: Arriving in Yemen (surreal to be here)

We crossed the land border from Oman into Yemen after a difficult and closely questioned entry, then drove along the coast through mountainous landscapes, villages, and spectacular beaches. We spoke with local people about fishing, the war, fuel prices, inflation, and the humanitarian crisis. After a long journey through deserts and numerous military checkpoints, we reached a hotel near the sea and reflected on our first two days in Yemen.
