We flew from Santo Domingo to Port-au-Prince and explored neighborhoods affected by gang violence, speaking with locals about insecurity, poverty, corruption, earthquake damage, garbage collection, sewage, and informal electricity connections. We visited a fuel station to see the enormous queues and learned how gang control, shortages, and black-market sales are affecting transportation, food prices, education, and daily life. We also discussed Haiti's political crisis, the assassination of the president, and why many people believe the country needs major international support.
