Day 1: Walking Streets of South Sudan (beyond words)

We arrive in Juba and explore a riverside slum, where we speak with residents about poverty, insecurity, alcohol, drugs, flooding, and difficult living conditions. We meet street-connected young people and learn about their struggles, including displacement, hunger, crime, and imprisonment. We also investigate South Sudan’s dependence on oil and imported fuel, visit local neighborhoods and a cow market, and discuss the country’s security situation and cultural traditions.
