We entered Libya, a country often perceived as dangerous, with special permission to cross the land border from Tunisia, which no other tourists have done since the war broke out. We explored Tripoli, including its main square, Martyr Square, the old city, and a fish market, observing a blend of Roman history, Ottoman architecture, and North African culture. Outside Tripoli, we visited a 5th-century ancient town, a Berber cave-dwelling, and the ancient granary of Nalut, learning about the indigenous Berber culture and how people have adapted to life in this unique country.
