Entering Mogadishu as an American Tourist

We explored Mogadishu over four days, visiting its beaches, markets, fish market, Turkish mosque, old lighthouse, and monument to the unknown soldier. We experienced the city's contrasts, from white sandy beaches and restaurants to destroyed buildings, dusty streets, poverty, and heavy security precautions. We also tried Somali food, learned about the local eating culture, and met welcoming people while reflecting on the city's difficult past and hopeful future.
