We entered Syria after a stressful border crossing from Beirut and explored Damascus, widely considered the world's oldest continuously inhabited city. We wandered through the old city, visited the Umayyad Mosque, Azm Palace, and Khan As'ad Pasha, and explored its crowded markets. We ate shawarma and ended the day at a café with shisha while taking in the city's history, architecture, welcoming people, and views.
