We traveled to Utqiaġvik, Alaska, one of the most isolated communities in the United States, and learned about the Iñupiat people’s culture and traditional bowhead whale hunt. We witnessed the community bring a whale ashore, butcher it, and distribute its meat and blubber, while hearing stories about survival, language, and cultural preservation. We also visited the northernmost point in the country, saw Arctic wildlife, and completed a polar plunge before visiting a local family to learn how whale meat is prepared and preserved.
