We traveled through Georgia’s Greater Caucasus Mountains to Ushguli, exploring its ancient homes, churches, defensive towers, and traditional way of life. After waiting two months for suitable weather, we returned by helicopter to the remote Tusheti region and drove dangerous mountain roads to visit Omalo and the isolated village of Chorna. We met elderly residents, including an 84-year-old doctor who lives alone, and learned how these communities survive despite harsh winters and their declining populations.
