Gold Prospecting in the Sahara Desert - Mauritania

We travel through Mauritania, visiting the port of Nouadhibou and the mining town of Chami before reaching the gold-mining areas in the Sahara. We accompany prospectors into dangerous underground tunnels, where they work for long periods extracting gold-bearing rock. We then follow the rock to processing workshops, where it is crushed and mixed with mercury before the gold is sold through official channels or the black market.
