We left the salt flats and traveled south through the Andes, stopping in San Cristóbal to see its church and exploring a vast volcanic rock valley with unique formations. We ate lunch near a lagoon, saw flamingos and an active volcano near the Chilean border, and learned about coca leaves while trying them for the first time. We finished the day at a remote desert hotel powered by solar and wind energy, built near a freshwater spring.
