I Entered the Dark Side of the Human Hair Trade

We traveled to Istanbul and Vietnam to investigate where human hair comes from and how it moves through the global wig and hair-extension trade. We visited shops, a hair exhibition, and a factory near Hanoi, where we followed the processes of sorting, washing, drying, wefting, and making wigs. We also met girls who sold their hair to help their families and explored the high prices and ethical questions surrounding this billion-dollar industry.
