We travel to Balykchy on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul, exploring the town’s Soviet bus station, abandoned buildings, Lenin monument, and former shipyard. We learn about Balykchy’s history as a fishing port, meet local people, and discuss life in Kyrgyzstan after the collapse of the Soviet Union. We finish by having tea and lagman at a local café while taking in the lake and surrounding mountains.
