We retraced part of the Silk Road westwards from Xi’an, travelling by train through Xining and onto the Tibetan Plateau, where we visited a Buddhist monastery and met local people. We continued through Gansu Province to Jiayuguan, explored the western end of the Great Wall, and rode a camel through the desert. We then took another train towards Dunhuang through the Taklamakan Desert.
