I Spent a Day in Jamaica's Most Dangerous Slum

We traveled to Flankers in Montego Bay to learn about life in a community affected by gang violence, poverty, and political division, guided by a local resident named McCoy. We met families and residents, heard about their experiences with crime and inequality, explored their homes and streets, and listened to Wes perform poetry about Jamaica’s history and the struggle for equal rights. Later, we returned with our team to visit a local rum bar, where we shared stories and connected with residents before reflecting on the contrast between Jamaica’s tourist resorts and its local communities.
