We spent nearly a full day traveling through dirt roads, checkpoints, and Mana Pools National Park to reach the Vadoma people near the borders of Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Mozambique. We brought food and cooking supplies, learned about the community’s two-toed genetic condition, and heard about the challenges they face with shoes, schooling, poverty, discrimination, and displacement. We stayed in a raised house, shared meals, met the chief, and watched a song and dance before helping a child obtain a bicycle for school.
