I Tried the World's Deadliest Game in Afghanistan

We wandered through the bazaar of Mazar-e-Sharif, sampled local foods, explored traditional clothing and hats, tried on a burqa, visited the Blue Mosque, and bought a scarf. We then traveled to Tosh Gurgan to learn the basics of buzkashi, including how to pick up the carcass and carry it toward the goal. Finally, we watched a fierce match in Mazar-e-Sharif, learned about the prizes and injuries involved, and reflected on the sport's dangers and cultural traditions.
