I Visited China’s Most Restricted Region

We explored Kashgar, visiting its Silk Road-era sites, mosque, animal market, touristy old city, local restaurants, and lively night market while learning about Uyghur culture and cuisine. We then traveled to a rural village, visited a mausoleum and local markets, met families and schoolchildren, and experienced everyday life outside the city. We bought and gifted a sheep to a local child’s family, reflecting on the hospitality, traditions, and complexities of Xinjiang.
