I Went to a Country That Doesn't Exist

We travel with my wife and her mother from Moldova into Transnistria, exploring its Soviet-era infrastructure, underground wartime caves, monuments, and a remarkable collection of weapons and military artifacts. We visit an untouched Soviet theater, eat at a traditional buffet, examine the region’s unusual currency, and explore a church, factories, and Lenin monuments. We also meet local teenagers, learn how the Sheriff company influences daily life, cross the Dniester River by barge, and visit a village to hear grandmothers describe life during Soviet times.
