Inside an Albanian Village Guesthouse

We drove along a treacherous mountain road in Southern Albania to reach the remote village of Nivica, navigating rain, mud, loose rocks, and slippery tracks. We stayed with Petrit and Dushe in their cozy guesthouse, where we enjoyed homemade food, chestnuts, rakia, and traditional patula pancakes while a storm knocked out the village’s electricity. We learned about the hosts’ life far from the tourist trail and left hoping to return in warmer weather.
