Inside Honduras' African Neighborhood (brutal reality)

We traveled from San Pedro Sula to Triunfo de la Cruz, a coastal settlement with Nigerian roots, where we met members of the local Garifuna community and learned about their agriculture, fishing, traditional medicine, music, and football programs. We heard how residents are resisting attempts by resorts and authorities to take their ancestral land, as well as the unresolved abduction of community leaders. We also discussed the contrast between the area's relative safety and San Pedro Sula's gang violence before returning from a long day on the road.
