Inside the Ultra-Rich Gypsy Mansions of Romania

We traveled from Bucharest to Strehaia to meet some of the wealthiest Roma families in Romania and tour their palaces, luxury cars, gold decorations, and traditional food and drink. We learned about their family traditions, religious beliefs, inheritance practices, and local community justice system, including the role of a respected female judge. We also experienced their hospitality, met a young heir who is expected to marry at 13, and discussed the community's struggle with the negative image associated with Roma people.
