Leaving Kazakhstan

We secured a ticket for the Caspian Sea ferry from Aktau, Kazakhstan, to Baku, Azerbaijan, departing at 8 a.m. and expected to take between 30 and 80 hours. We explain how our Airbnb host Irina helped arrange the journey, which operates irregularly and carries passengers on a cargo ship, and we prepare food and supplies for the trip. Before leaving Kazakhstan, we reflect on its welcoming people, relaxed culture, beautiful sunsets, and the places we still hope to visit, including Almaty and the southeastern mountains.
