We traveled to Tripoli with local friends, exploring its older neighborhoods, souks, historic buildings, and the remains of an abandoned train station. We learned about the station’s history and its former rail connections to Syria, Beirut, and Palestine. We then drove up the coast to a mountain viewpoint overlooking Tripoli and the Mediterranean Sea, finding Lebanon welcoming, safe, and very different from its reputation as a war zone.
