Solo In Mexico's Most Dangerous Barrio

We traveled from Mexico City's historic and business districts to Tepito, known as the Barrio Bravo, asking locals and police whether it was dangerous. We explored the market, saw counterfeit goods and abandoned buildings, listened to a mariachi band, and spoke with several residents. Despite Tepito's intimidating reputation, we found the people friendly and felt relatively safe, with traffic and the risk of losing our camera seeming more concerning than the locals.
