We traveled across Tokyo to Ryogoku to get tickets and spend the day watching a sumo tournament. We watched the quiet morning matches, went out for lunch with a friendly English-speaking guide, and returned as the stadium filled up. As the afternoon matches began, the rituals became longer and the atmosphere grew much more intense.
