The Village That Disappeared

We drive across Belarus, visiting Khatin to remember the villagers murdered and the thousands of settlements destroyed during the German occupation. We explore Studenka and the Berezina River, where Napoleon’s retreating army suffered a devastating defeat, and admire the storks that migrate between Belarus and southern Africa. We spend the night in Korma, investigate its hotel, restaurant, tank and “wall of hotties,” before continuing toward the irradiated forests and getting stuck in a swamp.
