We begin our three-week Pacific Islands trip in the Solomon Islands and visit the central market in Honiara to meet local people. We explore the unique sight of naturally blonde hair among some darker-skinned Melanesians, learning that it affects about 5–10% of the population and appears to be a homegrown genetic trait. We also stop by the roadside for grilled fish and cassava while discussing possible reasons for the hair color.
