We traveled to Turkey to explore Göbekli Tepe, an 11,500-year-old site whose monumental carvings challenge traditional ideas about the origins of civilization, organization, and religion. We spoke with local residents, researchers, Graham Hancock, and the descendants of people involved in the site’s discovery, then visited the archaeological museum to see newly displayed artifacts. We also explored Karahan Tepe and reflected on how ongoing excavations may continue to redefine our understanding of human history.
