We left Port-au-Prince to drive north toward Cap-Haïtien, avoiding gang-controlled roads while witnessing armed security, fuel shortages, poverty, dangerous driving, and severe road conditions. Along the way, we stopped at Lake Péligre, ate a local meal, and learned more about the food crisis and the extreme hardships many Haitians face. A protest over rising food and petrol prices became hostile, with masked men threatening to slash our tires, so we had to turn back because the alternative route was controlled by gangs.
