Visiting Syria Border Town (Extreme Travel in Middle East)

We drove from Beirut through the Lebanese mountains to Baalbek and Arsal, near the Syrian border, where we visited Syrian refugee camps. We met refugees including a 13-year-old boy and a mother who described fleeing the war, living in harsh conditions, and struggling to afford food, heating, and schooling for their children. We also learned about the region’s history of ISIS activity, military restrictions, and ongoing insecurity.
