Visiting the Coldest City in the World (-71°C, -96°F) Yakutsk / Yakutia

We explored Yakutsk and experienced temperatures around -58°F, seeing how the extreme cold freezes water, vehicles, food, technology, and even affects our bodies. We visited the city’s permafrost, cemetery, market, and frozen river, then traveled to a village by dog sled and learned about Yakut life, traditional clothing, fishing, and respect for nature. We also discussed the region’s history, culture, wildlife, harsh roads, and the risks posed by melting permafrost.
