Visiting the Tribe that Eats Humans (Papua Island)

We traveled alone to West Papua, Indonesia, overcoming a series of logistical problems before reaching the remote Mamuna tribe in the rainforest. We learned about their tree houses, sago-based food, traditions, and beliefs surrounding the neighboring Korowai tribe’s cannibalistic punishment rituals. We also joined the Mamuna on a jungle hunt, helped prepare food, and reflected on their close-knit and self-reliant way of life.
