Walking into Bolivia’s Roughest Neighborhood

We travel from downtown La Paz to El Alto, one of Bolivia’s highest and most notorious neighborhoods, where we explore cliffside homes, visit a shaman, and experience the effects of the extreme altitude. We walk through El Alto’s enormous market, seeing stolen goods, animals, traditional medicines, food, vehicles, and spiritual offerings to Pachamama. We also explore the witches’ market and learn about local beliefs surrounding coca leaves, ceremonies, healing, and the city’s unique culture.
