We travel to Poveglia, an abandoned island off the coast of Venice with a history as a plague quarantine colony, burial and burning ground, and psychiatric hospital. We explore its overgrown buildings, church, prison-like rooms, hospital ruins, and burning grounds while reflecting on the suffering and deaths that took place there. After three hours, we leave feeling unsettled and wondering whether places with such difficult histories should be preserved or transformed.
