What is Zanzibar? (Africa's Best Kept Secret)

We arrive in Zanzibar after a long journey and explore its shallow waters, white-sand beaches, local fishing, food, and the history and culture shaped by African, Arab, Persian, Portuguese, and British influences. We visit the habitat of the endangered red colobus monkey and learn about Zanzibar’s role in the slave trade and regional commerce. We also learn Swahili phrases from our local friend Mandela, including “hakuna matata,” meaning “no worries.”
