Why does Italy have 6000 Ghost Towns? (hidden Italy)

We explored four abandoned villages in southern Italy, beginning with a town damaged by landslides, earthquakes, floods, and difficult agricultural conditions. We met a mysterious elderly man who had remained in his deserted village for decades and learned about his unconventional, fiercely independent way of life. We then visited another earthquake-damaged ghost town before ending in Santo Stefano, where a visionary restoration project has brought residents, hotels, restaurants, and renewed hope back to the village.
