Why Does Japan Have 9,000,000 Abandoned Homes?

We traveled from Tokyo to Shikoku to explore rural villages disappearing because of Japan’s aging and declining population. We visited an abandoned school, spoke with elderly residents, and explored Nagoro, a village filled with hundreds of dolls representing people who have left or died. We also investigated the legend that Emperor Antoku survived a 12th-century battle and was hidden in these mountains, eventually finding a shrine connected to the story.
