Why is There Still a European City in Africa? (we went to find out)

We travel to Melilla, one of Spain’s autonomous cities in North Africa, to explore its history, multicultural identity, and unusual position between Europe and Morocco. We meet local residents, visit the fortress and surrounding sites, and experience the blend of Spanish, Moroccan, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and Hindu cultures. We examine the heavily fortified border and then cross into Morocco to learn how the border has affected people and communities on both sides.
