Why Will the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers Disappear? Iraq

We explored the Iraqi marshes around Nasiriyah and Basra and learned how the Tigris and Euphrates sustain local communities, wildlife, fishing, buffalo farming, and traditional foods. We followed the rivers’ courses and saw how drought, climate change, and dams in Turkey and Iran are reducing water levels. We also discussed the growing effects of pollution and salinity, and the need for international agreements to prevent the marshes and rivers from disappearing.
