Why You Should Visit Skardu, Northern Pakistan

We flew to Skardu and explored its dramatic mountain landscapes, comparing the destination with neighboring Hunza and discussing the journey there. We visited Upper Kachura Lake, mountain pastures, Shigar Fort, Mantoka Waterfall, the Sarfaranga Cold Desert, and the ancient Buddha Rock. We concluded that although Skardu has bumpier roads and less-developed infrastructure, its spectacular scenery and lower visitor numbers make it well worth visiting.
