We explore Pyatigorsk, the gateway to the Caucasus Mountains, and look around its railway station at images of the region and old Soviet objects. Locals help us figure out the confusing platform and track information before we board the train to Grozny. We settle into a first-class compartment, discover its beds and storage spaces, and prepare to spend the night travelling toward the snowy Caucasus.
