We tried to hitchhike from Kuriani to Lake Tabatskuri, but the isolated dirt roads made it impractical, and a quad-bike tour was too expensive, so we changed plans and headed toward Vardzia by bus. Along the way, we explored a small fortress and the Silk Road Corridor before reaching our guesthouse near Vardzia. We then hiked up steep hills to an old earthquake-damaged fortress and took in the dramatic, dry landscapes of the region.
